What Love Needs
One of my goals for the year of 2026 that I had printed to go on my vision board was to find someone I can romantically connect with. So, when an opportunity presented itself before, I was more than pleased to be in the face of it. I went on a date. It started really well and suddenly went downhill. I no longer felt the same attraction I felt when we were talking. Everything seemed ruined.
I went out and lived my life and suddenly, I was thinking about it for weeks until my therapist quenched my thirst for insight.
"Do you want to know what happened to the guy I was talking about?"
"Yes. Of course."
"He made me quite uncomfortable with his touch. No matter how much I'd tell him to not do that, he didn't listen."
"Ahhh...that's unfortunate. I mean, when someone can't respect these basic boundaries are they even worth a shot?"
Well, that conversation was far more elaborate than I've revealed here and had taken a different direction, but these were the footnotes from it anyway.
I mean, what does one need in a romantic relationship? Is it companionship? It is love? Is it a sexual partner? At 25, I like to think I have some idea of what I want and none of it seemed that it could come true from this prospective partner. So, I ended things swiftly and gathered all comfort from everyone who could provide me with it.
I haven't closed all doors. I'll be still taking any other opportunity that comes my way. Also, before you start a whole rant about how I should be the one taking charge if I want to take things my way, let me tell you that despite all social and societal expectation obstacles thrown my way, I've still done it but according to my experience, men like to do things their way so much so that being the nice, sincere person I am, I can't help but let them have their way and in the end, lose the game of life they've played up for their convenience.
The hunt is on, again.
Author's note:- Tried a new style of writing. Do you like it? Raye's new song "Where is my husband?" would have been perfect playback for this post. Have your heard the song? Next post will be different. Stay tuned.
