Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there was a little boy named Jack. The little boy, Jack, was the prodigy of a forest fairy, his mother and a banyan tree, his father. Every day, Jack would get up and do his daily chores and play in the pond that stood beside the base of his nest. His mother, Alina, would sometimes join him and help him get ready for the day. Jack, being a boy of age, spent most of his time napping, eating, playing with his mother and learning about the environment he lived in. Every evening, after a day full of activities, Alina and Jack would spend the evenings walking around the forest area and talking. In his naive and childlike wonder, Jack would ask his mother all kinds of questions. "Mummy, why is the sky blue?" he'd ask. "Child, our sky is the result of every ray reflected back, and since all rays except the blue ones bounce back, we only see the colour blue." Alina would reply. " I don't understand. What is a ray, mummy?" "Rays are streams of light like..... Look!" Alina said, pointing to a stream. "Just like our river has streams of water, so are the sun's rays made of streams of different coloured lights." "Oooooo. Mummy, but then how is it that we can't see the different coloured rays?" Jack inquired. "We can, my dear, look at that rainbow! You'll see it in action, baby boy." Mother Alina pointed to a stream of sunlight beaming through the forest cover. "Wow! Wow! Can I catch it? Can I catch it?" Jack giggled. "Sure! Why not? Go ahead." Alina smirked. Jack ran towards the stream of light, aiming to fill it in his bucket. "I have the rainbow light! I have the rainbow light!" Jack squealed. That day ended with Alina sitting there, sparrows surrounding her, while Jack danced and played with the squirrels in the rainbow light and as the sun went down and the light dimmed, Alina materialised a torch in her hand. She got up, as her sparrow friends flew away, she called out to Jack, who was all soiled. "C'mon, honey! Let's leave." Jack, a mama's boy, got up and ran to his mother. Jack and Alina had spent several evenings like this. As they walked back home, Alina was silent. She knew her boy was getting older, and it was time to enrol him in a school. So once they were back home, and Jack had gone to bed, she sat down to have a chat with her husband about it.
"Honey! Don't you think it is time we put Jack in school?"
"He is a bit too young for school. Don't you think?" Zerome, the giant banyan replied.
"I don't think so. Everyone his age has started school at Leo's."
"Hmmmm...if you think this is the right course of action for him. Go ahead. I'm with you."
"All right. Goodnight, hon." Alina kissed her husband.
The next morning, while the sun was still down, Alina crawled over Jack and climbed out of their nest. She took off her robe and shook her wings. Her wings sparkled in the break of the day. Alina ran a few steps and sprang herself up from the ground, and began flying. She raised her altitude slowly, careful to not crash into the tree branches and the tree tops and disturb the sleep of her fellow forest mates. Slowing down where the old owl resided, Alina sprinkled her sparks on top of him to raise his attention towards her.
"Alina! Hi! How are you doing? What are you doing here?" Leo hooted
"Hi Leo! I need a favour from you. You know my family and me. You know I have a boy, Jack. He is young, but he is nearing the age to join school. Would you please be a dear and take him in as your pupil....teach him everything?
"Absolutely, Alina! Some of my students are graduating tomorrow. So classes will be a little empty. Bring him in from today. You know when I start my times."
"Oh thank you, thank you, thank you Leo." Alina gleed, kissing Leo on the cheek. Quickly, Alina flew back to her nest.
"Jack! Jack! Wake up! It is time for school."
"Not now, mum! I am sleeeepyyyyy." Jack rolled over to the other side.
"I'm going to make your favourite breakfast! Tomato soup and grilled cheese!"
"yay!" Jack said sleepily. "10 more minutes..."
Sensing the urgency and noting Jack's unpreparedness, Alina left him behind to prepare the tomato soup and grilled cheese for him. As his 10 minutes neared, Alina finished up the soup and brought the tray of food near her nest so Jack could get a whiff of it.
"It is yum yum time, dear," Alina said, rocking his bed.
Jack, who was still not ready for the day, had a sudden whiff of the soup and got out of bed at once.
"Grilled cheese! Soup! Today is going to be such a good day." Jack grinned with a full mouth.
As Alina and Jack walked towards the spot, they noticed a large herd of animals seated in the clearing. Stealthily, Jack slowly joined the group of animal kids getting started on Leo the owl's class.
"Okay, class! Attention!" Leo flapped his wings. "We have a new joinee today. This is Jack," he said pointing to Jack, "...Alina's son. Alina, as you all know, is our guardian fairy. She and her husband live at the end of the forest. Everybody say 'Hi' to Jack."
"Hi, Jack!" Everyone said unanimously to Jack.
Alina kissed Jack's cheek."I'll pick you up after school. Stay curious, kid!"
Alina slowly flew back to her nest.
Months had passed. Alina and Jack would perform almost the same routine every day. Both of them would wake up, get ready for school. Jack would be dropped off at school. Alina would come back and perform her duties of the day. In the evening, she'd pick Jack up, and they'd walk back to their nest, talking about the day.
Jack would go on and on about the lessons and the exercises he had done during the day in great detail. and then go on to painfully inform Alina how he had not a single friend he could do plan all his excercises with.
One day, while walking back home, Jack tugged on Alina's robe.
"Mummy, my tooth is loose." He babbled as he put a finger on his loose tooth and shook it.
"Omg! You are finally growing up, baby boy. Congratulations! Keep your tooth underneath your pillow tonight. You might receive some money."
Excited by the prospect of money, Jack decided to sleep earlier than usual that night. He didn't play in the pond, he ate his dinner early. He flipped his pillow and carefully kept his his tooth in the middle. Jack did as his mother told him, and that night, while he was fast asleep, an unknown winged creature came into his room and slipped under his pillow. It left behind sparkles and wisps of sound and magic as the creature came out of the covers and went out of the nest.
The next morning, Jack woke up and found money under his pillow. Squealing with delight, he called out, "Mummy, mummy, look what I found! Money....from the tooth fairy!"
"Yay! Jack is rich now. Will Jack give away some for his mum?"
"No!" Jack said defiantly.
"Okay. Now, never mind the money. Keep it in your locker and go get ready for school."
Jack mumbled something out of breath.
"What was that?" Alina questioned.
"Nothingggggggggggggg....." Jack squealed and ran away as fast as he could.
That day, classes under Leo's supervision were fewer, and Alina hadn't been informed. Assuming that his mother knew about the fewer classes and choosing not to pick him up that day, Jack began to take the familiar route home. On his way back home, he noticed that Lubby, the baby squirrel, was crying. Seeing was around for his aid, and Jack feeling bad for his ache rushed to him and noticed that Lubby had nicked his knee.
"Oh no...Lubby, you've got a big gash."
Lubby crying, "Yesss, I know, I know. It hurts so bad. My mother isn't here to pick me up either.
Jack! I know you don't know me, but can you take me to the Lassey the swan's clinic? I know she can fix this."
"Of course, Lubby!"
And so, Jack the sweet boy, began a different journey, without his mother's knowledge and towards a more treacherous path to Lassey the sawn's clinic, carrying Lubby on his back. Sweet boy Jack did all this while singing to soothe Lubby and carrying him without complaining to any of the bystanders. They reached Lassey's clinic, where Lassey the swan fixed up his wound. Jack paid for the expense using his tooth fairy money, and both said goodbye to the Lassey.
Overwhelmed by Jack's support, Lubby became his best friend, and from that day onwards, Jack had no problem finding a best friend for excercises and classes.
